Determined, perseverance, fixer, provider, protector, comical, loyal are just a few words that would describe Eddie. He worked in construction and later as a millwright with Georgia Pacific, Monticello, until his motorcycle accident in 2006. Eddie did not let that accident stop him. He went above and beyond what the doctors told him he would be able to do. He enjoyed working his cattle, gardening, cutting grass, bushhogging, and fixing anything and everything anyone mentioned to him, or asked him how they could fix. If they turned their back long enough, he had it fixed for them.

He was loved fiercely and faithfully by his wife of 29 years, Sherry Speights Smith, who survives him and for whom he was so thankful. She stood for him at times when he could not stand on his own.

He has now been reunited with his son, Eddie Jake Smith; his father, Johnny Abe Smith; father-in-law, Jerry Lynn Speights; grandparents, Elbridge and Georgia Mae Smith, RC and Ellawee Ballard Rutherford, and JH Rutherford.

Along with Sherry, he is also survived by his daughter, Bailey Shumaker (Jonathan), his son, Levi Smith; his precious grandchildren, Layla Jake, Asher, Dilynn, and Annaston Shumaker; his mother, Betty Ballard Smith; brother, Robbie Smith; sister, Suzette Smith, and sister-in-law, Chantay Smith; his mother-in-law, Rebecca Rogers Speights; his brother-in-law, Jimmy Speights (Hope); and his sister-in-law, Sandy Abshire (Johnnie). He is loved and looked up to by his nephews, Jonathan Rome Smith (Ashley), Jadon Speights, Dalton Abshire; and his nieces, Adrienne Smith, Marissa Davis (Ervin), Jessie Henderson (Jacob), Rebecca (Becca) Speights, Erin Reynolds, and Brittney Smith. He has numerous great-nieces and great-nephews who love Uncle Eddie. He is looked for every day by his fur babies, Buddy Roe, Buddy Roe JR (BJ), Duke, Patches, and his big baby bull, Ralph.

If you could count Eddie as family or a friend, you were very blessed.
