Elijah Barnes Jr.
Funeral services were held on Sept. 20, 2025, at Lucas Tabernacle Church of Christ Holiness USA, Silver Creek, for Elijah Barnes Jr., 72, of Silver Creek, who passed away on Sept. 14 at Lawrence County Hospital, Monticello. Elder Rufus Fields officiated, with interment following at Lucas Holiness Cemetery, Silver Creek. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He is the son of the late Elijah Sr. and Jennie Lee Sutton Barnes. He was a member of Lucas Tabernacle Church of Christ Holiness USA.
Mr. Barnes was a foreman brick mason. He was a deacon, chairman of the Deacon Board, member of the Brotherhood, former superintendent of Sunday School, youth leader, former president of Southeast Mississippi District Sunday School, former Man of the Year – South Central Diocese, and partner with Royal Family of Faith Ministries.
He enjoyed westerns, reading the Bible, Daily Word, going to church; loved his family, church family, loved to play basketball, and loved race cars. He played with the Lucas A’s. He was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Golden State Warriors.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Barnes, of Silver Creek; sons, Elijah Barnes III, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Elder Kendrick B. Barnes (Carrie), of Silver Creek; daughter, Jennifer L. May, of Silver Creek; grandchildren, Justin Barnes, Jerrod Barnes, Jeremiah Sumrall, Keynon Barnes, Amilyah Barnes, Keylon Barnes, all of Silver Creek; great-grandchildren, Jaci Barnes and Journi Barnes, both of Memphis, Tenn.; brothers, Larry Barnes and Charles Barnes, both of Silver Creek; sisters, Lula Mae Grinstead and Edna Lee Madison, both of Silver Creek; Estella Stringer, of Gulfport; Sarah Gholar, of Silver Creek; Sylvia Rogers, of Silver Creek; and many other relatives and friends.
