Charley James Butler

Funeral services were held Feb. 15, 2025, at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church, Silver Creek, for Deacon Charley James Butler, who transitioned into the presence of the Lord on Feb. 7, 2025. Rev. Roy Thompson officiated, with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He is the son of the late Robert and Gary Butler. He was a member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church.

Deacon Butler retired as a line foreman in September 2003 from South Mississippi Electric Power Association, Hattiesburg. His love for the Lord was shown through his love for his family, church family, Springhill Baptist Church community, and community involvement with young men and women. He was a servant enthusiastic about making a difference in the community and young people’s lives.

He is survived by his wife, Alberta Butler, of Hattiesburg; daughters, Angela Butler, of Ridgeland, and Annessia Butler-Dawson, of Hattiesburg; adopted son, Frederick Tat, of Stephenville, Texas; seven grandchildren; brother, Howard Butler, of Prentiss; sisters, Arvellia Williams, of Prentiss; Essie Sacks, Bessie Durrah, and Mable Mitchell Azusa, all of California; three godchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
