Richmond Dunaway

Richmond Dunaway, 85, of Jayess, passed away on Dec. 13, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., Monday, Dec. 16, at New Bethel Jesus Name Church, continuing from 11 a.m. until services at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 17. Bro. Gary Robinson, Bro. Bobby Lambert, and Bro. Tim Mains will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hartman Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richmond was born on Jan. 17, 1939, to the late Jonathan “Johnnie” Dunaway and Willie Belle Lambert Dunaway. He was known around the community as the “Sweet Potato Man.” He sold vegetables for years to people all over. He loved camping, fishing, and telling stories. He loved his family, and he never met a stranger. He was a faithful member of New Bethel Jesus Name Church and, for a short time, was the oldest member. Throughout his life, he devoted his time to every aspect of the church. During his wife’s illness, he devoted his time and attention to taking care of her. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 plus years, Katie Dunaway; his sister, Johnnie Belle Boyd; his brothers, J.Y. Dunaway, Grady Dunaway, J.D. Dunaway, and one infant brother.

He is survived his three children, Ronnie Dunaway (Mary), Dinnia Coon (Benny), and Jerry Dewayne Dunaway (Angela); seven grandchildren, Ashlie Payne (Kaleb), Zane Wilson, Zachary Dunaway, Drew Dunaway (Joy), Dustin Dunaway (Emily), Devin Coon (Anna), and Allison Coon; five great-grandchildren, Keegan Foster, Kylen Payne, Aliza Payne, David “Davy” Dunaway, and Logan Dunaway; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
