Mattie Jewell Ward Pevey Nelson

Mattie Jewell Ward Pevey Nelson, 100, passed away Aug. 1, 2024, in Hattiesburg. She was born May 19, 1924, to John App and Vina Geneva Dixon Ward in Jefferson Davis County.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 4, at New Hope Baptist Church at 618 Carmel New Hope Road, Monticello. Funeral services will be held at 3, Sunday, at New Hope Baptist Church in Monticello. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Bro. Jared Hester will officiate. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Elmont Pevey and William J. Nelson; daughter-in-law, Sharon Thames Pevey; and grandson, Matthew S. Pevey.

She is survived by her sons, Ronnie E. Pevey (Linda) and Gary W. Nelson (Ann); grandchildren, Dana Pevey White (Chad), Jason E. Pevey (Casey), and Jacob A. Nelson (Laura); great-grandchildren, Brentley White (Victoria), Chandler White (Tiffany), Reagan White, Sydney Pevey, Abbey Pevey, and Foster Nelson; and great-great grandchildren, Aidan White, Isabella White, Natalia White, and Mason White.
