Peggy McClelland Sumrall
Peggy McClelland Sumrall, 88, of Monticello, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2024, at her residence in Monticello, with her family by her side. She was born Aug. 25, 1935, in Monticello.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 18, at Bethel Baptist Church, 73 Bethel Road, Monticello. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Bro. Adam Wyatt and Bro. Archie Herrin will officiate. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Peggy began working at the Baptist Bookstore in Jackson while living in a boarding house and attending school. She later worked alongside Gerald in their Sumrall Discount Business while raising their three small children. After Gerald closed the store and became a full-time farmer, she began working at Barefield Office Supply in Jackson until she retired. Peggy filled her retirement years by spending time with her family, traveling, and checking out restaurants across the state.
Through the years, Peggy participated in various community clubs and organizations. She was very active at Bethel Baptist Church, always serving on committees, building projects, and wherever she was needed. She taught the Dorcas Sunday School Class for many years and was extremely active in WMU as well.
She was preceded in death by her father, W.J. McClelland; mother, Zelma Blackwell McClelland; sister, Anna M Nelson (Faris); and her grandson, Damon Baldwin.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Sumrall; son, Billy Sumrall (Christine); and daughters, Gail Sumrall Baldwin (Jimmy) and Lynn Sumrall Bozeman.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Benge, Jeremy Benge, Seth Sumrall, Cody Sumrall, Jeremy Legendre, Taylor Legendre, and Ryan Bozeman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Wyatt Garrett, Jasper Barnhart, Sutton Burns, Dalton Russell, Walker Garrett, Blaze Bozeman, Caden Sumrall, and Riggs Barnhart.
