Erma Nell Bridges Magee

Erma Nell Bridges Magee, 88, was called to rest Dec. 11, 2023, and is now reunited with her parents, siblings, relatives, and friends in the arms of the Lord. A service will be held at 6 p.m., Dec. 22, at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church, 167 Elem Tyler Road, Sontag.

Honorary pallbearers are Roger Holloway, Justin Henry, Luthur Brown II, Julius Magee Sr., Robert J. Magee, Corey Magee, Joseph Magee, Calvince Magee, Joshua A. Magee, and DeLane Magee.

Erma Nell was born on April 25, 1935, in Lawrence County in Sontag to Mary Alice Tyler and Edgar Bridges Sr. She joined Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church at an early age and was very active in the church during her lifetime, serving as Sunday school teacher, Women’s Home Mission president, church financial secretary, trustee board president, Sunday School Institute secretary, representative of the National Baptist Convention – District 5, and coordinator of the youth. She was also very active in the community as a den mother to Cub Scouts and a Brownie Troop, baseball coordinator, and was always ready and willing to help everyone.

She was married to Cal Robert Magee and Clifton F. Donaldson, and both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a grandchild, LaCourtney Sanchez.

She is survived by four children, DeLane (Kathy), Elaine, JoLane (Othella), and Lorraine; 13 grandchildren, Roger Holloway, Corey Magee, Krystle Henry, Justin Henry (LaQuana), Joseph Magee (Maneya), Luthur Brown II, Calvince Magee, Julius Magee Sr., Joshua A. Magee (Kimberlyn), Robert J. Magee, DeLane Magee, Jalaina Cooper; 11 great-grandchildren, Jordan Henry, Brayleigh Magee, Joshua B. Magee, Julius Magee Jr., Payton Henry, Jayla Magee, Kaelan Holloway, Luthur Brown III, Journee Holloway, Cairo Magee, Luna Brown, Jahziah Magee, and Lucia Brown; maternal siblings, Eloise Rose, William Smith, Ruby Clark, Joe Smith, Elvera Damond, Oliver Smith, DeBorah Walker (Richard), and Paul Smith; paternal siblings, Alvin Bridges, Golda Franklin (Jimmy), Lamar Bridges, Carolyn Ross, Eleanor Brown, Louis Bridges (Dawn), Edgar Bridges (Louvenni), Amos Bridges (Florene), Ann Peyton, and Betty Wright (Hiram); in-laws, Vester Magee, Louis Magee, and Jessie Locke; one grandson that she claimed, Terrence Holloway; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Her favorite motto was “I am not everybody, I am one. I can’t do all things, but I can do some – that I can do, the Lord expects me to do.”

The family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of loving kindness shown to her during her lifetime and to the family during their bereavement.
