Lester Wayne Turnage Sr.

Funeral services for Lester Wayne Turnage Sr. were held March 2, 2023, at the Crooked Creek Baptist Church, with interment following in the Cliburn Cemetery. Rev. Micah Rutland officiated, assisted by Rev. Rodney White. Mr. Turnage, 68, entered into the eternal rest of his Lord on Feb. 28 at his residence in Silver Creek. Saulters Moore Funeral Home was in charged of the arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers were Jacob Gable, Justin Gable, Eric Van Sinderen, Jesse Turnage, Joseph Turnage, Donald Gable, Josh Halford, and Wayne Turnage Jr. Honorary pallbearers include Hayden Howell, Ricky Sills, Larry Davis, Stan Stephens, Rodney White, Randy Sills, Robert Glenn Cliburn, and Ricky Hartzog.
Mr. Turnage was born on July 14, 1955, in Jackson to Jesse O. and Dortha Sills Turnage. After graduating from New Hebron High School, Mr. Turnage attended Copiah-Lincoln Jr. College (Co-Lin) where he enrolled in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Program. In addition to owning a flooring company, he also worked in the oil field and as a truck driver. Blessed with a rich, deep voice, Mr. Turnage will be fondly remembered for his passion for singing; he not only enjoyed singing bass with the Pearl Quartet, but also enjoyed getting together with his friends and playing his guitar. Among the other things he enjoyed was watching westerns, but he especially loved to spend time on the Pearl River, running trot lines and checking nets. Mr. Turnage was a mason and also a member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Turnage was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Eric Van Sinderen; his sister, Katie Bell Mullins; and his father-in-law, Commander John E. Bryan.
His memory will forever be cherished by his daughters, Renada Gable (Donald) and Leslie Van Sinderen, both of Silver Creek; his son, Wayne Turnage Jr. (Betty), of New Hebron; his former wife and beloved best friend, Beth Bryan, of Silver Creek; his sister, Jessie Marie Stephens, of Silver Creek; and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Riley Bryan, of New Hebron. The legacy of their Paw-Paw will also live on through his grandchildren, Jacob, Justin, Courtney, Briana (Josh), Eric, Hayden, Hannah, Jesse, and Joseph; as well as his great-grandchildren, Harley, Holden, and the anxiously awaited baby boy Halford.
