Fredrick Fortenberry

Graveside services were held Feb. 23, 2021, at North Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for Fredrick Fortenberry, 67, who died Feb. 16 at his residence. Dr. Wesley Bridges officiated, with Johnson Funeral Home handling arrangements.
Mr. Fortenberry was born to the late Archie and Ida Fortenberry in Lawrence County. He was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, Silver Creek, and attended North Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, New Hebron.
He received his education at Beulah Williams and McCullough High School in Monticello. He attended Alcorn State University before joining the United States Army.
Mr. Fortenberry was married to Detra Morris Fortenberry and to this union, three children were born. He was employed as a truck driver for over 40 years.
He is survived by his wife, Detra Fortenberry, of New Hebron; sons, Fredrick Fortenberry, of Norfolk, Va.; Tony Fortenberry, of New Hebron; daughters, Felicia Haynes, of Monticello; Latanya Fortenberry, of New Hebron; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Eshmond (Martha) Fortenberry, of Silver Creek; two sisters, Louise (James) Madison, of Silver Creek; and Gloria Smith, of Byram; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and many other relatives and friends.
