Irene Kelly Stewart
Graveside services were held July 30, 2020, at Stewart Family Cemetery, Silver Creek, for Irene Kelly Stewart, 76, who died July 24 at her residence. Rev. Wesley Bridges officiated, with Johnson Funeral Home handling arrangements.
Mrs. Stewart was born to the late Floree Sibley Fortenberr and C. Kelly in Prentiss. She moved to Biloxi, met and married the late James Stewart, and to this union, five children were born. She later moved back to the Rose Hill community in Silver Creek where she became a strong encourager to the community children. Mrs. Stewart was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as Church Mother, and member of Usher and Dining Ministry. She worked at Lawrence County Hospital in the Dietary Department, retiring after 35 years of service. She loved cooking, giving, encouraging, and helping others.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by two sons, Cedrick and Fredrick Stewart; one daughter, Melonese Stewart; two brothers, Joe Altman and Charles Fortenberry; three sisters, Idess Blanchard, Lorine Kelly, and Loretha Daughtry.
She is survived by her children, Reginald Stewart and Chandra Davis, both of Silver Creek; two sisters, Charlene Robinson, of Petal; and Catherine Davis of Detroit, Mich.; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
