John Paul Williamson

John Paul Williamson passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018. He was the firstborn child of Alton and Lura Lee (Bullock) Williamson, both deceased. He was born in Monticello, May 4, 1940.
John grew up in a sharecropper family. From these childhood experiences, John acquired strength and an appreciation for the simple things in life. He and his brothers and cousins hunted the piney woods and fished and swam in the cool streams. John played football for the Monticello Red Devils. At age 17, John left home to make his own way, taking several jobs. He worked with an offshore drilling rig in Louisiana, laid brick in Dallas, and worked retail sales with Whites Stores and then sales management with Sears Roebuck & Co.
John and Suzanne met while working at the Irving, Texas, Sears and combined their families. John had two boys, Scott Dwayne, deceased, and Bryan Keith. Suzanne had one son, Jeffrey Scott Pettigrew, deceased. John and Suzanne had two grandchildren from Keli Pettigrew, Sheridan Williams and Taylor Williams.
John retired in 1997 and he and Suzanne moved back to Monticello from Ft. Worth, Texas. He wanted to enjoy his brothers and other family. Brothers Leroy, Mike and Clifton, and sister, Dottie Yates, are now deceased. John’s brother, James Lee Williamson, and John fished on Lake Washington and loved being together. It was childhood again, except with money for boats and a camping trailer, and adult friends from all parts of Mississippi! Good times!
John’s church membership was with Willow Park Baptist Church in Willow Park, Texas.
Riverwood was in charge of details and conducted a lovely private service.
