Billie Jean King

Mrs. Billie Jean King, 89, was called home from this life June 15, 2018, at Lawrence County Nursing Center in Monticello. Billie was born August 9, 1928, in Lawrence County to William Elmer and Amanda Rhea Wilson Garner-Wells.
Services were held Monday, June 18, 2018, at New Zion Baptist Church in Monticello, with graveside services following in the New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Paul Stephens and Bro. Jeff Davis officiated the services, with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. King was a devoted member of the New Zion Baptist Church and the Ladies Sunday School Class for many years. She loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. She was loving friend, mother and grandmother. Her sense of humor and joy in life will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen Newman King, and one great-grandson, Joshua Dean Thurman.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Shirley and husband, Herman Farmer, of Monticello, Bobbie and husband, Jimmy Thurman, of Monticello and Glenda and husband, Joe Dickerson, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama; 8 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
