Davy Layne Sistrunk

Davy Layne Sistrunk, 60, a resident of Denham Springs, Louisiana, passed away after a long illness at 6:44 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Our Lady Of the Lake Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Davy was born at the Baton Rouge General Hospital on November 13, 1956 to proud parents Bill and Mary.
Though Davy enjoyed life to the fullest, always with a smile and a story, he endured a lifetime of medical illnesses due to a birth defect. For the last 19 years of his life, he depended on kidney dialysis. As a young boy in Cheraw, South Carolina, he enjoyed playing football in the front yard with his dad. While spending his teenage years in Petal, he enjoyed hanging out with his many friends at Lake Sharee.
Davy was always ready to help his fellow man. He loved to make new friends and tell of his adventures and of his sickness. He never met a stranger. As long as Davy could talk and eat, he was good.
As a young man, Davy would listen to BB King, which inspired him to learn how to play the guitar. One of his favorite songs was The Green Grass of Home.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Andrew Olinde, Dr. Azzem Khan, and nurses, Mrs. Sue Cary and Mrs. Michelle Hooter, all who made Davy’s life bearable.
Davy was preceded in death by his loving mother, Mary Belle Russell Sistrunk of Monticello.
Davy is survived by his father, William Alton Sistrunk, Jr. of Denham Springs, Louisiana, and two sisters, Janet Lee Sistrunk-Denham of Walker, Louisiana and Mary Kathleen Sistrunk Taylor and husband Dale of Opelousas, Louisiana. Davy is also survived by his two nephews, Michael Jason Denham and wife Rakinzie Fisher-Denham and Jeremy Blake Denham of Walker, Louisiana; a very special uncle, Ralph B. Sistrunk of Denham Springs, Louisiana; a special friend, Ms. Donna Sheldon of Walker, Louisiana, and a special aunt, Mrs. Sybil Russell of South Carolina.
Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Denham Springs, Louisiana on Friday, May 26, 2017 beginning at 10:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 p.m.
