Services for Willie Mae Carney Cothern of Jayess were held Friday, February 3, 2017 at Powells Grove Pentecostal Church with burial at the church cemetery.
Mrs. Willie Mae Carney Cothern, 87, passed away February 1, 2017 at her residence. She was born on July 22, 1929.
She was retired from Kellwood factory as a seamstress and was a member of Powell’s Grove Pentecostal Church, where she was a devoted Sunday School teacher for nearly 20 years and a loving mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved cooking for her family and spending time with them.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Homer Henry Carney and Corean Creel Carney; husband, Mitchell Lafay Cothern; sisters, Eva Boyd, Adelle Nichols, Ethel Roberts, Kathleen McCain and Era Jackson; and brothers, Bill Carney, H.P. Carney, Earl Carney and Henry Carney.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Marion Thurman and husband Jimmy, Wanda Price and husband Everett and Sandra Gaskins and husband Terry; sister, Billie Reid; nine grandchildren, Dwight Thurman, Eric Thurman, Marty Thurman, Jason Price, Justin Price, Jamie Price, LaShay Smith, Derrick Rutland and Tesa Catoe. She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
