Graveside funeral services for Clifton Herring were held Jan. 6, 2021, in the Matijevich Family Cemetery. Mr. Herring, 97, passed away from this life on Jan. 1 in Shivers. Pastor Darrell Lovelady officiated. Saulters Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Clifton Hubert Herring was born on April 3, 1923, in New Hebron, to Jody Herring and Mary Drummonds Herring. Mr. Herring was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a farmer and a member of the Hattiesburg Church of God.
Preceding Mr. Herring in death were his mother and father; his first wife, Alagene White Herring; one daughter, Edna Jean Herring; one son, Virgil Ray Herring; two sisters, Mary Louise Longoria and Edna Mae King; three brothers, Alfred Oscar Herring, Eugene Anderson Herring, and Joe Paul Herring; and one son-in-law, George Matijevich.
Survivors include his wife of 47-1/2 years, Kay Ellen Herring; one daughter, Margaret Nell Matijevich, of Silver Creek; two sons, Phillip Wayne Herring, of Prentiss; and Richard Dale Herring, of Columbia, S.C.; one stepdaughter, Ellen Marie Lovelady Little, of Pinola; one stepson, Darrell E. Lovelady, of Manchester, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relative
