Wayne Peyton

Funeral services were held Oct. 5, 2024, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Monticello, for Wayne Peyton, 70, who died Sept. 25 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, Jackson. Rev. Joseph Hooker, pastor, officiated with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Peyton was born to the late Charles Edward Sr. and Edell Peyton in Lawrence County. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Monticello. He was a member of Peyton Town Hunting Club of Monticello.

Mr. Peyton was a retired shipping clerk who loved hunting, tailgating at Jackson State University, going to church, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Peyton, of Monticello; sons, Wayne T. Peyton and Nicholas Peyton, both of Monticello; daughter, Shequita P. Stonewall, of Monticello; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles Peyton Jr. and Alvin C. Peyton Sr., both of Monticello; sister, Carol A. Moye, of Monticello; and many other family and friends.
