The Wall That Heals in Crystal Springs Nov. 13-16
The Wall That Heals–a 375-foot replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C., that is sanctioned by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund–is opening in Crystal Springs Nov. 13 and will be open 24 hours a day until 2 p.m. Nov. 16. The traveling wall is located at the corner of Highways 27 and 51 at the former site of Rogel Ford. This is a free event open to the public.
There will be a Welcome Home Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, and a Candlelight Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14.
A closing ceremony will be held at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16.
A mobile education unit arrives with The Wall and includes exhibits such as Hometown Heroes, featuring local veterans whose names appear on The Wall, as well as those honored through the In Memory program (veterans who returned home and later passed away). Another section of the exhibit tells the powerful story of artifacts left at The Wall, offering a glimpse into the personal expressions of remembrance and grief shared by visitors over the years.
The exhibit offers a profound opportunity for reflection, remembrance, and community connection. Organizers encourage everyone to visit the display to honor the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans.
Having the wall visit is a competitive process. Of 140 applicants, Crystal Springs was in the top three of the 30 sites chosen. Veteran Clark Russell initiated the process and has led a committee of volunteers through several months of planning. This event is possible due to the generous support of many people, businesses, organizations, and the city.
