Monthly farmers market to kick off April 2
A monthly farmers market is planned to kick off at Cooper’s Ferry Park in Monticello on April 2 and will continue the first Saturday of each month for most of the year.
The event is being organized by Polly Dean, of Dean Acres and the recent recipient of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce annual Agriculture Award. Dean and Monticello Mayor Martha Watts have been working to put the event together, and plans are for it to continue through October.
Dean said vendors are expected to bring kettle corn, crafts, jellies, jams, baked goods, farm fresh eggs, grass-fed beef, and local honey.
By May, farms will begin harvesting fresh produce and will have it for sale at the monthly events.
A certified food vendor offering breakfast foods, ribs, and snowballs will be on hand, as well as Southern Star Kitchen pork rinds.
Dean said Fair River Homestead will have a booth and will take orders for fresh pork, and Watkins products will have their baked goods flavorings at the market.
Everyone is invited to come out, enjoy the event, and take home some fresh food. The market will be open from 8 a.m. until noon.
