William Shakespeare is widely regarded to be one of the greatest playwrights of all time. In “The Adventures of Shakespeare on The Loose,” William is being accused of losing his connection to the public. At the urging of his business manager, he decides to visit a local school teaching his plays. In a theatrical twist, Puck’s understudy uses magic to break up a group argument. In the chaos, students manage to rip pages containing several of Shakespeare’s plays causing multiple characters to spring to life. This comedy of errors will engage audiences of all ages and provide new insight into the works of William Shakespeare.
“We are excited to have the Youth Acting Troupe back onstage at New Stage!” said Education Director Sharon Miles. “The energy and joy that the students bring to the stage is unparalleled. Resuming this youth class has solidified the need to young people to be together and participate in theatre.”
New Stage Theatre’s Youth Acting Troupe was formed in 2011. It is open to youth ages 12-18, and no previous acting experience is necessary. The troupe meets for class and rehearsals from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturdays throughout the school year. The troupe has performed plays at New Stage’s Warehouse Theatre, Belhaven Shakespeare in the Park, at The Willie Morris Library, Highland Village, and the Mississippi Children’s Museum.
