Hazardous Waste Day to be held in Monticello March 20

The Town of Monticello, the Lawrence County Board of Supervisors, and the Department of Environmental Quality are planning the Fourth Annual Monticello/Lawrence County Household Hazardous Waste Day 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 20.

At the event, Lawrence County property owners are given an opportunity to get rid of household hazardous waste and electronics they have stored around their homes.

County citizens are encouraged to load up hazardous materials for safe and proper disposal. Recommended items for disposal are aerosols, oil, fertilizers, poisons, batteries, paint, propane cylinders, corrosives, electrical wires and cables, computers, stereos, and televisions.
Simply take items to Reid Road Loop-F.E. Sellers Hwy. (around the Sportsplex in Monticello). Citizens can relax in their car while volunteers unload and sort items for proper disposal.

Help keep toxic and dangerous rubbish off of roadways and away from water sources. Clean it up and help make our county beautiful and safe for all its residents and guests.

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality awarded the Town of Monticello a solid waste assistance grant of $23,000 that will be used for the household hazardous waste collection program.
