There will be a fundraiser for Shirley Rutland from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22 at the Refuge, 584 Woody Road, Jayess. There will be a silent auction, garage sale, and concessions. Friday, Sept. 4

The qualifying period for district five school board member ends at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4. Anyone interested in running for this position is encouraged to contact the Lawrence County Circuit Clerk’s office at 601-587-4791, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, for more information.

Saturday, Sept. 5

A benefit for Kenneth McDuffey will be held 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 at Sullivan’s Grocery Store, 306 Franklin Street, New Hebron. McDuffey is a front-line worker at Sullivan’s as a meat market butcher. He has been a faithful worker for 40 years and has been diagnosed with colon and liver cancer. A drive-through giving booth will be in the parking lot at the store. Social distancing measures will be used. Please wear a mask. In addition, donation jars will be placed at the checkout counters in the store during the month of August.
