School start date pushed back to August 10
Lawrence County students will get a few extra days of summer vacation before classes start for the new school year and even more time before they actually have to be on campus.
The Lawrence County School Board voted Tuesday morning to push the start of school to Monday, August 10 amid concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. School was originally set to start for most students on August 5.
Kindergarten students will start August 12 as originally planned.
While school will start the week of August 10, students will not attend school in person. All teaching will be done by distance learning until after the Labor Day holiday, September 7.
Distance learning provides instruction during the school day, but students and instructors are not in the same place.
