    The Brookhaven Regional Arts Guild announces their August Art Show in the Lincoln County Regional Library in Brookhaven. It features the work of Derek Covington Smith, formerly of Brookhaven, who has returned home to continue his art career. In the 16 years he has been gone, he has pursued many interested and work with galleries in NYC and other places. He has returned to his roots to have a slower life pace and to create art, teach and promote the ARTS in SW Mississippi. A perspective of his work will hang in the Library from August 2-30 at regular library hours. A reception will be held in the Vernon Room of the library to meet and greet the artist on August 16 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. There will be a short gallery talk at approximately 5:30 p.m. Come by and meet this interesting man and perhaps he will inspire the artist in you to come out and play. This event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.

    Children ages K-6th Grade are invited to FAM JAM with Monticello United Methodist Church Saturday, August 18, from 2-4 p.m. Sign up in the church’s media center. The group will be taking the church van.

    A Benefit Dinner will be held Saturday, August 18, at 6 p.m. at Pleasure Point Inn & Suites Multi-Purpose Building for Stacie Pittman. Stacie was diagnosed with scleroderma and pulmonary fibrosis in 2013. She will be having a double lung transplant and all proceeds from the dinner will help with out-of-pocket expenses that her insurance does not cover. Tickets for the dinner are $12 each and may be purchased by calling Jowanda Collins at 601-695-5862.

    Pearl River Valley Baptist Church will hold their Annual Revival, Sunday, August 19-Wednesday, August 22. On Sunday, Sunday School begins at 10:30 a.m. with Morning Worship at 12 p.m., followed by Evening Service with Rev. Gary James, Pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in Hattiesburg. Monday-Wednesday, services will begin at 7:30 p.m. each evening with Rev. Gerard A. Roberson, Pastor of McKowen M.B. Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as Evangelist.

    The Southwest Chapter of ABATE will have its monthly meeting at Jeff Price’s Shop at 2 p.m. Jeff’s is located 8 miles south of Highway 84 at 3326 E. Lincoln Rd., Brookhaven, on the right.     St. Paul M.B. Church of Silver Creek will hold their annual Fall Revival, Monday, August 20-Wednesday, August 22, beginning at 7:15 p.m. each evening. The evangelist for revival will be Pastor Timothy Magee.

    South Springhill Baptist Church will hold their annual Friends and Family Day, Saturday, August 25, at 6 p.m. The guest speaker will be Pastor Mike Grenn, along with guests New Hebron Baptist Church.

    A Service of Joy- Raising Our Hearts and Voices to GOD will be held Sunday, August 26, at Monticello United Methodist Church beginning at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will follow the service.

    The next organizational meeting for this year’s Life of Christ Presentation at Atwood Water Park will be held Tuesday, August 28, at 5:30 p.m. at the Gatehouse at Atwood Water Park. All churches, businesses, and individuals who are interested in portraying scenes from the life of Christ in this annual event are encouraged to attend. The live presentation will be held Saturday, December 8, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m.

    The Lawrence County Fall Livestock Show (80% payback jackpot show) is set to kick off on Saturday, September 8. The order of show will be: 1) Tot Dairy Cattle Showmanship (under 8 no entry), 1a) Dairy Cattle Showmanship, 2) Commercial Dairy Heifers Show, 3) Dairy Cattle Show, 4) Tot Beef Showmanship (under 8 no entry fee), 5) Beef Showmanship, 6) Commercial Heifer Show, 7) Market Steer Show, 8) Beef Breeding Show, 9) Tot Goat Showmanship (under 8 no entry fee), 10) Goat Showmanship, 11) Commercial Meat Goat Doe Show, 12) Market Goat Show, 13) Tot Lamb Showmanship (under 8 no entry), 14) Lamb Showmanship, 15) Market Lamb Show. Beef breeds fewer than 5 will be A.O.B. As you can see from the show order, the association will have the Commercial Meat Goat Doe Show, but only ONE type of goat showmanship class. Wether Dam show entries will be taken for consideration based on numbers. If inadequate entries, Wether Dam entry fees will be refunded. Deadline for check in on Saturday will be 8:00 a.m., with the show beginning promptly at 9:00 a.m. The association ALWAYS encourages you to pre-enter the show, as this makes management much easier. Please indicate on your entry form if you wish to participate in showmanship and include your correct birthday and entry fee. Please note that tie and pen spaces will be assigned based upon receipt of paid entry. Please make sure your checks for your entry fees are enclosed to insure tie and pen space.
    The entry deadline is Friday, August 31. The association appreciates your pre-entry as staff resources are limited. Entry fees are $15 per head and $5.00 for showmanship per class PAID IN ADVANCE. No faxed entries will be accepted. Entries received without payment will be considered late and will be subject to the $20 per animal late entry fee after August 31. No exceptions. Entry forms are available by calling the Lawrence County Extension Service at 601-587-2271.
