Absentee Voting Available for November Election

Absentee voting for the November 6 General Election is now available and ongoing at the Circuit Clerk’s office in the Lawrence County Courthouse. Registered voters may vote any Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. through Friday, November 2.     An Empower the Vote Rally will be held Saturday, October 20, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Lucas Baseball Field in Lucas. There will be free food, a church booth and games.

    Antioch Baptist Church will hold their Trunk N Treat and Fall Festival, Saturday, October 20, 2018, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the church parking lot. Come see all the decorated trunks! Trunk N Treat will be followed by games, a cake walk and food in the Fellowship Hall.

    Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church, located at 167 Elem Tyler Road, Sontag, will hold their Pastor Aide Program, Saturday, October 20, beginning at 6 p.m. The theme is “Getting Lit for Jesus,” based on Matthew 5:16. The church is hosting a Benefit of Love for Pastor Aaron Thompson, who has be ministering to the church for over 20 years. Special guests will be Squad of Praise from Short Chapel Church of Carson. Other guests include Marissa Floyd of Magee, Royal Children of Christ (a mass praise team from surrounding counties), Minister Korey Langston, Minister Jherrod Dixon, Minister Joshua Christmas, Bro. Gerald Slay and Oak Ridge M.B Church. Master of Ceremonies is Bro. Daniel Carter, and the event is hosted by Sis. Tranesa Thompson and Bro. Randy Aultman.

    The Southwest Chapter of ABATE will have its 5th Annual Unity Trace Run to raise funds for MSU’s Camp Jabber Jaws, Saturday and Sunday, October 27&28. They will meet at Hudgeys of Brookhaven at 9 a.m. and leave at 10:30 a.m. This is a motorcycle social and fundraiser ending at Ratliff Ferry on the Natchez Trace. They plan to spend the night and ask for a donation of $15, or whatever you can afford. Proceeds will be donated in Allie Barkley’s name. The public is invited to attend.     Monticello United Methodist Church will be participating in the Trunk or Treat, scheduled for October 31 from 5:30-7 p.m. A sign up sheet for workers is in the church’s Media Center. Individuals will decorate trunks and supply treats this year. The church needs one helper for the food stand. Contact the church office for details.
