Grover C. Cato

Funeral services were held Jan. 20, 2024, at North Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, New Hebron, for Grover C. Cato, 71, who passed away Jan. 12 at his residence. Rev. Moses Johnson officiated, with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He is the son of the late M. C. and Rena Mae Cato. He was a member of North Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher, president of Brotherhood, trustee and president of Juris McDuffey Scholarship Fund. He served as Brotherhood president and treasurer of Lawrence County Mississippi Baptist Association.

Mr. Cato was a retired entrepreneur who loved his livestock, watching westerns, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by daughters, Monica (Demetrius) Brown and Tracey (Joe) Buckley, of New Hebron; sons, Frelix (Lucy) Cato, of Milton, Fla.; Greg Cato, of Hattiesburg; Wayne (Sheronda) Cato, of New Hebron; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sister, Mary Pearl Cato Stewart, of Silver Creek; brothers, Darius Gene (Mary) Cato, of New Hebron, and McKenneth (Della) Cato, of Byram,; and many other relatives and friends.
