Betty Elizabeth Martin

Betty Elizabeth Martin, 78, of Monticello, passed away July 16, 2023, at Jefferson Davis Nursing Facility in Prentiss. Betty was born Jan. 12, 1945, in Columbia to Ed and Sadie Daniel.
A funeral service was held July 19 at Calvary Baptist Church in Silver Creek. Graveside service followed at Calvary Church Cemetery in Silver Creek. Bro. Mike Sutton and Bro. Nicky Martin officiated, with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Throughout her years here on Earth, she held a variety of titles, the most important being that she was a Christian with a strong faith. Many knew her as Tamer Lou, a name given to her at birth by her mother, but her sister could not stand the name. She was renamed, but the nickname became a kind joke between family and friends. While others knew her as one of Silver Creek’s “Golden Girls,” Betty, Christine Wallace, LuJean Harvey, and Agnes Cary bonded over their passion for card games and tennis. This led to friendships that were full of adventures and would last lifetimes. Betty was a homemaker, a business owner, and graduate of cosmetology school. While she was widowed at a young age due to the passing of her husband, Lynn Martin, Betty found a way to provide for her family. Due to her love and dedication to her children, her family has flourished into three generations of love. As she always told her grandchildren, Granny, we love a bushel, a peck, and a hug around the neck.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Claude Daniels, Edwin Daniels, Grace Daniels, and Ilyss Speights.
Betty is survived by her sons, Doug Martin (Rhonda), Nicky Martin (Beth); one daughter, Nichole Martin Lambert (Derek); brother, Marshall “Sonny” Daniels; and sister, Faye Russell.
