Funeral services for James D. Holyfield were held May 13, 2023, at Saulters Moore Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Don McClellan officiating, assisted by Rev. Tim Robertson. Interment followed in the Prentiss Cemetery. Mr. Holyfield, 82, passed away May 10 at his home in Silver Creek.
Serving as pallbearers were Landon Martin, Michael Nations, Mack Nations, Ray Fortenberry, Bill Robichaud, and Joey Jackson.
James was born March 17, 1941, to the late Houston and Lorene Holyfield Allen. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Over the years, he worked as a farmer, a mechanic, and for Shell Oil Company. He loved working outdoors, baling hay, restoring tractors, and working in his garden. Most of all, James enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Houston Holyfield; mother, Lorene Culpepper Holyfield; stepfather, Dale Allen; and brother, Joe Holyfield.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Rushing Holyfield; daughter, Lisa Holyfield Robichaud; grandson, Zachary Veney; and a host of other family and friends.
