David Bernard Maye
Funeral services for SSG David Bernard Maye, son of Jay and Carolyn Maye, were held on April 8, 2023, at Fair Hill M.B. Church in Oma. Interment was April 10 at Natchez Memorial Cemetery in Natchez.
SSG Maye, an Army veteran and longtime resident of Killeen, Texas, passed away on March 31. He joined Fair Hill M.B. Church at a young age, graduated from Monticello High School in 1985, and studied at Jackson State University.
David enlisted into the United States Army in 1988, first with the Army National Guard and then served in active duty. He was a highly-decorated officer because of his leadership and devotion to duty. Over the course of his military career, David was awarded the Iraq Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, two National Defense Service Medals, a Southwest Asia Service Metal with three Bronze Service Stars, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, a Korean Defense Service Medal, four Overseas Service Ribbons, and two Kuwait Liberation Medals from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia for service in the Persian Gulf War. On Aug. 31, 2009, he retired from the Army with an honorable discharge.
Brother Maye served 34 faithful years in the Masonic order. He obtained the title of Past Master in 1997 after leading his lodge Marion H. Douglas Military Lodge Prince Hall Affiliated (PHA), of Colorado Jurisdiction. PM Maye recently moved his membership to Texas and became a member of Jno G. Lewis Lodge #622 (PHA).
David served his country for over 20 years. He loved spending time with family and friends. David will be missed greatly by all.
