Lawrence County Miniature Horse Association show dates for 2022 are May 21, June 25, July 30, Oct. 22, and Nov. 12. All shows start at 11 a.m. and are held at the James E. Givens Building near the Sheriff’s Department. For more information, contact Dustie Barnett at 601-754-4939.

Calvary Baptist Church in Silver Creek will have a VBS kick-off registration from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 22. There will bee a water slide and more. VBS will begin June 5.
Monticello United Methodist Church will have Heritage Sunday on May 22. Bro. Mike Evans and his family will be honored for their nine years of ministry to the church. Bring a covered dish and join the celebration.
May 26
The Lawrence County Forestry Association has planned an educational Longleaf Pine meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 26, at the James E. Givens Agri-Building located at 1535 F.E. Sellers Highway in Monticello. Randy Browning, biologist of U.S. Fish and Wildlife, will be the guest speaker addressing landowner considerations for longleaf pine. The meal will be catered by Bessie Turner. RSVP required by Friday, May 20.
May 31
Poll worker training for the upcoming election on June 7 will be held on Tuesday, May 31. Training will be held upstairs at the Lawrence County Courthouse from 4 to 6 p.m. Anyone interested in becoming a poll worker, may call the election commissioner’s office at 601-587-7878 and leave a message.
June 12-16
Divide Memorial Methodist Protestant Church will hold their Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8 p.m. each evening, Sunday, June 12 through Thursday, June 16. This year’s theme is “God’s Wonder Lab: Jesus Does the Impossible.” Classes will be available for ages three through completed sixth grade. Children will be able to participate in classes, music, crafts, snacks, games, and assemblies that teach how amazing our God truly is. A Closing Program will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, June 17. Divide is located 11 miles south of Monticello, off Highway 27.

Topeka Tilton Outreach Mission, 779 China Grove Rd., Jayess, serves USDA non-perishable food items from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the first and second Saturday of each month. Application must be completed for eligibility to receive said food.
Topeka Tilton Outreach Mission, 779 China Grove Rd., Jayess, Clothes Closet is open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the first and second Saturday of each month. All sizes of clothing, shoes, toys, household items at very low prices. Come shop for many unique items, too.
