The weather proved to be great on May 7 for the Third Annual Randy Carr Memorial Car Show at Atwood Water Park in Monticello.
The car show is held each year in memory of Randy Carr, who lost his battle with brain cancer in 2019. Carr was an avid antique car lover and collector who enjoyed attending and participating in car shows around the state. He was especially fond of 1957 Chevrolet cars.
The Carr family decided to host a show to honor him and raise money for the American Cancer Society/Relay for Life. All money raised from the show stays in Mississippi and will be used for lodging and transportation for cancer patients.
The Carr family raised over $5,600 and would like to thank the following sponsors and donors: Phillip’s Maintenance & Repair, Duncan Operations, Belk-Ditcharo Dental, Ramey’s of Monticello, Oak Lane Family Dental, First Bank, Watts Agency, Inc., Bank Plus, McClain Sonics, 1st Consumer Financial, Heather Sistrunk Harvey-Farm Bureau, Home Hardware, Lawrence County Press, T-Tommy’s, Hyde Trucking, and Derek and Rebecca Crosby.
Door prizes for Saturday’s show were provided by the following donors: Monticello Pawn and Outdoors, SAMs, Napa of Monticello, Pizza Inn, Wards, Lawrence County Building Supply, Kiki’s Place, Plain & Fanci, Home Depot, Keith Harvey, O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, Autozone, Mike McKennon-State Farm, and JuneBug’s.
Awards were voted on by sponsors and participants. The Sweet Sixteen were awarded to the following: Jeret Crider, Randy Boyd, George Daley, Charles Breeden, Bob Crider, Wayne Bessonett, Lee Johnson, Jeff Taylor, Lee Buie, Art Walters, Hollis Williamson, Shane Hall, Mike Evans, Andy Tynes, Rick Bush, and Chicken Willie Smith. Sponsor awards included: Phillip’s Maintenance & Repair – Thurman Lambert, Duncan Operations – John Sisk, Ramey’s – Patrick Clark, Oak Lane Family Dental – Caden Copelon, First Bank – Don Purser, Watts Agency, Inc, – Charles Breeden, Bank Plus – Scotty McPhail, and Home Hardware – Lee Buie.
Each year, the Carr family gives one special award to the entrant who received the most votes during the show. The 2022 Randy Carr Memorial Award was earned by Patrick Clark. This was extra special for the Carr family because Clark is a cancer survivor in the middle of his battle with this dreaded disease. The community is asked to continue to pray for Clark as he fights the fight.
Special thanks to Patrick Kincaid and Kita Thompson for providing some great eats, The Mama Tried band for providing the sound and entertainment, and Miss Hospitality Elizabeth Watson for presenting awards.
