Mississippians reminded to dial 811 before digging
Mississippi Public Service Commission Chairman Dane Maxwell, in accordance with recognizing April as National Safe Digging Month, is reminding the public to dial 811 before digging on private property and public land. For safety precautions, homeowners and contractors should utilize MS 811 to have utilities marked before digging.
“The month of April is traditionally a busy time for spring gardening and home improvement projects, but the safety of our residents remains a high priority,” Maxwell said. “I am urging everyone to utilize the MS 811 totally-free service to protect from harming themselves and from damaging an underground utility.”
Homeowners and contractors can make a free request online or over the phone (811) before digging to help communities maintain essential utility services, promote safety, and reduce the likelihood of accidentally digging into buried utility lines.
