Archie C. Ross

Graveside services were held Feb. 26, 2022, at China Lee Baptist Church, Silver Creek, for Archie Ross, 81, who died Feb. 15 at his residence. Rev. Jerry Earl, pastor, officiated; with Johnson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Ross is the son of the late Willie and Estella Ross. He was a member of China Lee Baptist Church, Silver Creek, where he served as deacon.
Mr. Ross was the vice president of the Board of Supervisors of Lawrence County at the time of his death. He was the first African-American supervisor elected in Lawrence County. He spent his career as a well-respected educator and successful basketball coach in the county.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Ross, of Silver Creek; daughter, Carolyn Marie Ross, of Rowlett, Texas; and brother, James Kelly, of Silver Creek.
