Jerry Alton King

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the Feb. 8, 2022, death of Jerry Alton King, of Monticello, who was 79 years of age. He was born Dec. 25, 1942, in Walthall County, with the family’s residence in rural Lawrence County.
A memorial service was held Feb. 10, 2022, at Topeka Baptist Church, with interment following in Roberts Memorial Cemetery adjacent to the church. Riverwood Family handled arrangements.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lucille Hedgepeth King and John Alton King; his sister, Billie King Hall; and his daughter, Belinda King Brister.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Watson King; his children, Sheri King Everett (Victor), of Monticello; Vicky King Johnson (Wayne), of Crosby; Jerry Darrel King Sr. (Chasity), of Monticello; and (Curt Brister), of Jayess.
He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
Jerry loved his four siblings: his brother, Jimmy Lyn King (Donna); and sisters, Billie King Hall (Joe), Sandra King Sarich (Ron), and Mary Beth Young.
Early in life, Jerry took to heart Jesus’ commandments to “love the Lord your God with all of your mind, soul, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. “
Jerry lived his life to serve his Lord God through involvement in his church and ministering through The Gideons International.
He loved people. He engaged family, friends, and strangers in conversation as often as he could. He loved to laugh and loved to cause others to find humor in everyday life.
Jerry was a humble family man who was a good husband, a good daddy/papaw/great-grandpa, and a good friend. His memory will be cherished, and he will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Topeka Baptist Church Building Fund, or purchase of Bibles through The Gideons International.
