Dewitt Boyd

Dewitt Lee Boyd, 87, of Monticello, passed away Oct. 6, 2021. He was born March 22, 1934, in Lawrence County to Esco Boyd and Dollie Lambert Boyd Creel.
Funeral services were held Oct. 9 at Forest Grove Methodist Protestant Church, followed by a graveside service in the Forest Grove Methodist Protestant Church Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Mr. Dewitt’s pride and joy was his wife and family. He married Ruby Nell Sumrall on Jan. 15, 1954, at a very young age. In the following years, his family grew by two children, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. His strong influence is shown in all his descendants; his determination, work ethic, and talents are reflected in his loved ones.
Mr. Dewitt was a retired truck driver; he drove for Wal-Mart from 1987 until his retirement in 1999. He was also a very talented guitar player. He played in local bands and in church for many years, and his favorite story to tell was playing with country music star, Loretta Lynn. He was a faithful member of Forest Grove Methodist Protestant Church for 72 years; he taught Sunday school and served in leadership positions throughout his life.
Mr. Dewitt was one of 13 siblings: sisters, Betty, Inez, Wilma, Causey, Bonnie, and Dorothy; and brothers, Troy, Nedham, Coney, Clayton, Claude, and Kip.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ruby Nell; daughter and son-in-law, Donna (Susie) and Reggie Smith; daughter-in-law, Jane Boyd; grandchildren, Donna and Donald Rose, Will and Samantha Boyd, Scott and Jennifer Williams, Jeremy Smith, and Destinie Smith. He deeply loved all his family and friends, but the lights of his life were his great-grandchildren: Raven, Maggie, Johnna, Jaycee, Zerah, Ally, Brantley, Nash, and Emery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Hiram Creel; his wife’s parents, Ted and Ruby Sumrall; all of his siblings; his son, James Michael (Jimmy) Boyd; and his granddaughter, Christa LeAnn Boyd Williams.
