Delton Alford McKenney

Delton Alford McKenney, 77, of Jayess, passed away Feb. 22, 2021, at University Medical Center in Jackson. Delton was born Sept. 18, 1943, to Bertha Ard McKinney. He spent his childhood and lived his entire life in the Topeka community in Lawrence Count. His grandparents resided in the Topeka community as well and assisted his mom during Delton’s childhood years.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Bertha Ard McKinney; and grandparents, John Ard and Ella Ard. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lavern B. McKinney, of Jayess.
Delton was a well-known wood hauler for many years and was also an employee of Lawrence County District 3. He was a hard-working man and also possessed a tremendous love for animals. Attesting to this fact was the last conversation with a family member on Sunday preceding his death on Monday, in which Delton stated that he told his doctor he had to go home tomorrow so he could feed his cows and dogs.
Though an only child, Delton was loved by many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all that cherish our memories of him.
