Betty June Bridges

Funeral services were held March 20, 2021, at China Lee Baptist Church, Silver Creek, for Betty June Bridges, 65, who died March 11 at her residence. Rev. Dr. Sonny Bridges officiated, with interment following in Bridges Family Cemetery, Silver Creek. Johnson Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Mrs. Bridges was born to Samuel and Vetta Slay. She joined Pearl River Valley Baptist Church at an early age and later joined China Lee Baptist Church, where she was the Vacation Bible School youth activity director, member of the Usher Ministry, choir director, and lead singer for the China Lee “Supreme Angels.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; and four brothers, Isom Slay, Emmanuel Slay, Samuel Slay Jr., and James Slay.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph Bridges; two sons, Antonio (Ch’Quita) Slay, of Bassfield; and Marreo (Javall) Bridges, of Silver Creek; four grandchildren, Nya, Jaedyn, Antwone, and Derrion; three sisters, Wilma Johnson, Barbara (Theodore) Stewart, Ruby (Rev. Levester) Sutton, all of Monticello; one brother, Gerald Slay; one uncle, Joseph (Lynell) Lewis, of Oakland, Calif.; and many other relatives and friends.
