Qualifying deadline nearing for municipal elections

Elections to determine the leadership of Lawrence County’s three municipalities are scheduled for later this year. The deadline for qualifying to run for the office of mayor or alderman is 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5.
Aldermen in the Town of Monticello run in individual wards, and aldermen in New Hebron and Silver Creek run at-large, with the five receiving the most votes being elected.
Candidates must qualify to run by submitting petitions to get on the ballot, signed by their constituents. The Feb. 5 deadline is for candidates running as independents or under a party label.
If required, primary elections will be held April 6, with a runoff May 27. The general election will be held June 8.
