Lora H. Minton
Lora H. Minton, of Sontag, passed away on Dec. 13, 2020, at the age of 70 in Metairie, La., surrounded by her loving family.
Lora was born in Camden, N.J., to the late Douglas and Helen Hancock on Sept. 3, 1950. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Lora grew up in New Gretna, N.J., and later moved to New Orleans, La., where she graduated from Our Lady of Holy Cross College, then spent her career as an ICU nurse for over 35 years at Ochsner Medical Center in Gretna, La., and was recognized as a “Great 100 Nurse” in 2016.
Lora loved traveling, dancing, and music, and she had an affinity for hummingbirds and butterflies. She was known for her kindness, caring nature, and compassion; and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Lora is survived by her beloved husband, James “Jimbo” W. Minton Sr.; her daughters, Sandra L. Prather and Tracie L. Odom; her grandchildren, Jordan Prather, Sean Brown, Sadie Orlando, Heather Madison, Zachary Totora, Dean Odom, and Sandra Odom; and by her three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, David Hancock, along with many other loving relatives and friends.
Lora was preceded in death by her daughter, Michele Madison; her parents, Douglas and Helen Hancock; and her brother, George Hancock.
A memorial service was held Dec. 21 at Mothe Funeral Home in Harvey, La. Interment was at Shiloh Baptist Church in Sontag on Dec. 28.
Arrangements were entrusted to Neptune Society of New Orleans in Kenner, La.
