Friday, Dec. 4

The 7th Annual Moonlight and Mistletoe Community Tree Lighting will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 at The Refuge, 584 Woody Rd., Jayess. There will be a candlelight ceremony, s’mores, bonfire, ornament painting, refreshments, and a photo booth. All activities will be outside to allow for social distancing. An inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 at the Lawrence County Civic Center in Monticello. The Christmas story from the Bible will be told by Pastor Jay Thompson of New Life Church in Monticello. Christmas carols will be sung, and there will be several other festivities taking place. Hot cocoa and treats will be served by New Life concessions, with all proceeds going to the Bread of Life Food Pantry. To participate or volunteer to help with the event, call 601-320-3778.

Saturday, Dec. 5

The Town of New Hebron will hold its annual Christmas parade at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5. The theme is “Christmas Is a time for Healing and Love.”All veterans will be honored on parade day and are encouraged to ride the Town’s float with Town officials. Line-up will start at noon at New Hebron Attendance Center. Horses will line up at the east end of Main Street at the old wood yard for the second pass of the parade after Santa.

The Monticello Christmas parade has been canceled.

Saturday, Dec. 12

The Southwest Chapter of ABATE will have its monthly meeting at 5 p.m. Dec. 12 at Jeffrey’s Cycle Supply of Brookhaven. Jeffrey’s is located at 3326 East Lincoln Road, on the right. Big Metal building, eight miles from Highway 84. Raffle tickets are ready to sell for a gun voucher. All proceeds from the raffle will go into the Toy Run Fund. Meetings are open to the public. The Southwest Chapter of ABATE will have their Annual Toy Run for the Dickerson Place at 11 a.m. on Dec. 12. The group will meet in Walmart parking lot in Brookhaven and be led through downtown by Santa on their way to deliver gifts. All motorcycles and vehicles are welcome.
