RPMS students participate in mock election

On Oct. 29, 7th and 8th Grade students at Rod Paige Middle School had the opportunity to participate in a mock election. Takera Lewis casts her paper ballot at the polling place set up in the computer lab. This event was part of a joint initiative by the Mississippi Secretary of State’s office and Mississippi Public Broadcasting to encourage young people to learn about the election process and to register to vote as soon as they qualify. The ballots cast by these students were combined with ballots completed by students across the state to produce statewide results of the mock election. Students also answered questions based on posted information about the Presidential election process, qualifying to run for office, and voting.
