Woman rescued from burning house

Lawrence County firemen responded to a house fire on Bethel Road Friday afternoon, Oct. 16, and found a house engulfed in smoke and were told a person was possibly inside.
According to Lawrence County Fire Coordinator Donnie Weeks, firemen received the call at 1:07 p.m. and were on the scene at 264 Bethel Rd., Monticello, at 1:12 p.m.
When they were told someone could be in the house, the emphasis shifted from extinguishing the blaze to entering the house and attempting a rescue, Weeks said.
Working in zero visibility because of the smoke, firemen were able to find Tara Harvey-Huguley in her home and remove her from the building, Weeks said.
She was unresponsive and fire service and Rapid Response Ambulance personnel administered CPR before she was transported from the scene, he said.
Weeks said the fire appears to have started in the kitchen, and the actual fire was contained to the kitchen and a bathroom.
He commended firefighters for entering the house with zero visibility, locating her, and completing the rescue.
Unfortunately, Huguley passed away Tuesday in the hospital.
An investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
