Otis Rutland

Otis Rutland, 72, of Jayess, passed away on Sept. 15, 2020, at his residence. A funeral service was held Sept. 19 at Forest Grove Methodist Protestant Church, with graveside services following in Forest Grove Methodist Protestant Church Cemetery. Bro. Bobby Dawson, Bro. Elliot Rutland, and Bro. Micah Rutland officiated, with Wilson Funeral Home handling arrangements.
Otis was born November 15, 1947, in Lawrence County, to James Melvin and Agnes King Rutland. He was retired from Georgia Pacific in Monticello as a supervisor after 44 years. Otis was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Otis enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a lifetime member of Forest Grove Methodist Protestant Church in Jayess. He served as church treasurer for more than 37 years.
Those preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Dianne Rutland; and brother, Glenn Rutland.
Otis is survived by his wife of 17 years, Elaine Rutland, of Jayess; son, Craig Rutland, of Jayess; daughters, Pamela Shumaker (Joseph), of Monticello; and Jessica Brown (Sidney), of Zwolle, La.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jerry Rutland (Joyce), of Jayess.
In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to the Gideons International.
