Supervisors hear discussion of school resource officer position

In the Aug. 3 meeting of the Lawrence County Board of Supervisors, Rusty Rutland of the Lawrence County School District, along with Sheriff Ryan Everett, discussed the position of school resource officer and how that person would be paid at the outset of the school year. “School resource officer” is defined by the United States Department of Justice as “sworn law enforcement officers responsible for safety and crime prevention in schools.”
A representative from SanSom Equipment Company presented information on his company and what it offers. District 2 is in need of a new garbage truck, and the process to move forward on this was approved by the board. SanSom is one company that could be considered for the purchase of the truck.

The board recessed until 9 a.m. Aug. 17.
