Douglas Harris

Graveside services were held Aug. 1, 2020, at Friendship Baptist Church, Monticello, for Douglas Harris, who died July 29 at St. Dominic Hospital, Jackson, . Rev. Kelvin Langston, pastor, officiated, with Johnson Funeral Home handling arrangements.
Mr. Harris was born to the late Johnnie Lee and Clotiel Harris in Monticello. He joined Friendship Baptist Church at an early age and was a graduate of McCullough High School and Alcorn State University, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in agriculture education.
Mr. Harris was married to the late Lynn Dora Rankins-Harris, and two children were born to this union.
He began his career Lawrence County with USDA Farmers Home Administration, which spanned over 35 years, retiring in Woodville. He joined Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Woodville and after retirement, he moved back to Monticello, and renewed his membership with Friendship Baptist Church where he was a deacon. Mr. Harris was an active member of the Masonic-Collins Consistory #190 of Lawrence County.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers, James Earl, Johnie Lee Jr., and Monroe Harris.
Mr. Harris is survived by his mother, Clotiel Harris, of Monticello; daughters, Constance (Alex) Bradford, of Monticello; Katilya Harris, of McComb,; two brothers, Thomas (Diane) Harris, of Chicago, Ill.; and Robert (Delsie) Harris, of Monticello; two sisters, Dortha (Willie) Grinstead; and Johnnie Mae Woodard, of Monticello; five grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
