Funeral services for Claude Harrison Maxwell were held June 23, 2020, at Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello with burial following in the New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Monticello. Bro. Jimmy Harvey officiated with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Maxwell, 78, of Monticello, passed from this life on Friday, June 19, 2020, from a short illness with thyroid cancer at his residence. He was born on Jan. 23, 1942, in Lawrence County, to William “Rugie“ Maxwell and Velma Louise Morgan Maxwell.
Claude retired as a diesel mechanic after 60 years but still helped all his friends out by working from home on their tractors and etc. until he became full time caretaker for his wife.
He was loved by all and will be greatly missed. His family’s favorite saying was to put the tractor on the phone, listen to it, and he could tell you the problem.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Donna Lynn Maxwell Wallace; sister, Tera Elizabeth Fuller; and an infant grandson, Clyde Harrison Reynolds.
Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Betty Ann Hall Maxwell; daughter, Terri Maxwell Shumaker (Ben); two grandsons, Jake Reynolds (Toni),Seth Reynolds (Sarah); great-granddaughters, Kaitlee, Kylee, Hailey, and Ruth Anne Reynolds; great-grandsons, Carter Reynolds and Caleb Avants; one sister, Judy Gayle Maxwell; and one brother, David Wayne Maxwell.
