Say no to summer learning loss with MPB’s Summer Learning Family Fun Week
Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s annual summer learning event is going virtual. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, families are invited to participate in a weeklong virtual fun and interactive learning experience during MPB’s Summer Learning Family Fun Week 2020 set for June 21-27 at 10:45 a.m.
Register for the free event and get details at education.mpbonline.org. Registration is not required but encouraged; that way, MPB can confirm the number of participating families.
Summer Learning Family Fun Week offers Mississippi children a way to continue learning with hands-on activities to help prevent summer learning loss.
“Each year, it becomes apparent that students in all grade levels need to continue participating in learning activities during the summer months. As we face new challenges brought on by COVID-19, we must continue our part in helping to bridge the gap,” said Shelia Brown Robinson, Director of Early Childhood. “Learning is necessary. It is important that during the summer months, families are spending quality time learning together.”
MPB’s Education Department has presented this event that yields thousands of visitors to a downtown Jackson location. However, this year it is offering new opportunities to engage the whole family in fun, interactive and hands-on activities designed for the entire family to participate virtually. In addition to the hands-on activities during the week, families will also enjoy a live Ed Said concert, a storyteller, an art workshop, and much more!
“Since the school year ended so unusually, it is important for MPB Education Services to offer an opportunity for families to learn together at home in a fun, engaging and relaxing way. We are providing activities and resources that do not feel like school. Yet, learning is taking place,” said Tara Wren, MPB’s Director of Education. “These activities and resources can be used now and in the months ahead. The week-long virtual activities will allow families to read, explore, discover, dance and learn together!”
MPB Education will announce a daily prize winner from the families that participate in the activities. MPB thanks Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi for their continuing sponsorship of the Summer Learning Family Fun event.
