Supervisors continue to seek FEMA disaster aid

The Lawrence County Board of Supervisors held its monthly recessed meeting May 18 at the Lawrence County Courthouse in Monticello. All five supervisors (Steve Garrett-District One, Delane Ervin-District Two, Glenn Ard-District Three, Stanley Stephens-District Four, Archie Ross-District Five) were present, with Board President Steve Garrett presiding.
After thoughtful consideration, along with input from Lawrence County Tax Assessor Sherry Hyde-Thames and Emergency Management Coordinator Tony Norwood, the board decided to keep in place courthouse safety precautions that were created due to the coronavirus situation. For the last couple of months, access to county offices has been controlled to discourage the gathering of large crowds. Hyde-Thames assured the board that all citizens’ needs were being served by her office, as well as other county offices.
“The coronavirus situation is still as serious as it was when we began this,” Garrett said. “What we’ve been doing is working, and the citizens are still being served. We can revisit this in the June meeting.”
The board’s next scheduled meeting is at 9 a.m. Monday, June 1 at the courthouse.
