Third Annual Household Hazardous Waste Day scheduled for March 14

The Town of Monticello, the Lawrence County Board of Supervisors, and the Department of Environmental Quality are planning the third annual Monticello/Lawrence County Household Hazardous Waste Day 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, March 14. Each year seems to be bigger than the last, as Lawrence County property owners are given an opportunity to get rid of hazardous waste they have stored around their homes.
County citizens are encouraged to load up hazardous materials for safe and proper disposal. Recommended items for disposal are aerosols, oil, fertilizers, poisons, batteries, paint, propane cylinders, corrosives, electrical wires and cables, computers, stereos, and televisions.
Simply take your items to Reid Road Loop-F.E. Sellers Hwy. (around the Sportsplex in Monticello). You can relax in your car while volunteers unload and sort your items for proper disposal.
Help keep toxic and dangerous rubbish off of roadways and away from water sources. Clean it up and help make our county beautiful and safe for all its residents and guests.
The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality awarded the Town of Monticello a solid waste assistance grant of $25,000 that will be used for the household hazardous waste collection program.
