Vonnie Lee Armstrong

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Pearl River Valley M.B. Church in Monticello for Mr. Vonnie Lee “Chuck” Armstrong, 69, who died Friday, January 17, 2020, at his residence. Rev. Amos Bridges officiated, with interment following in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Vonnie Lee Armstrong was born to the late M.L. and Anita Armstrong. He graduated from McCullough High School and later graduated from Jackson State University in 1976, after being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1971 and serving in Vietnam.
He was employed at St. Regis (Georgia-Pacific), Oakley Training School, Jones Truck Line and The Central Mississippi Department of Corrections, where he served as Captain in charge of transportation.
He is survived by four children, Stevie (Tresalyn) Armstrong of Clinton, Anissa Armstrong Kelly of Dallas, Texas, Jeremy (Bridget) Armstrong of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Sedric Armstrong of Jackson; one brother, Amel (Linda) Armstrong of Silver Creek; five sisters, Sharon Taylor, Emelda Brown and Janis Anderson, all of Monticello, Alberta Brown of Brookhaven and Carrie M. Williams of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two caregiver nephews, Torrance and Dominic Thomas, and many other relative and friends.
