Connecting to the Past: Local Man’s DNA Could be Link to WWII Prisoner’s Remains

Lawrence County’s Pete Mathews had always heard the stories of his namesake, his uncle Sidney J. “Pete” Hubbard. Hubbard, his mother’s brother, was listed as missing in action at the tender age of 21 during the height of World War II.
Fast forward over 70 years, and Pete Mathews received a call from a number he didn’t recognize just a few weeks ago. He answered mindlessly, thinking the call was probably from a telemarketer or a robocall. The forensic on the line asked him if he had an uncle named Sidney J. Hubbard. Shocked, he replied that he did. The genealogist referred Mathews to Fort Knox.
